18th C. Pewter Vinaigrette

I can’t absolutely guarantee that this piece is unique, but it’s the only one I can find any record of. In a pewter whose composition considerably pre-dates the Britannia hard metal period, it’s an 18th C. vinaigrette in the form of a working miniature foot warmer whose overhanging top is through-cut with four hearts surrounding a central vent hole. The front has a sliding door that rises for access to the interior. 1½” square x 1¼” high. Pieces like this were often made as love tokens, sometimes as presents for children. But I think that this was a gift for a young woman, to be filled with potpourri to scent her room. Purchased in 2004 from the leading dealer in rare American pewter.
