Early 19th C. Pennsylvania Slide Lid Box

Fairly rare example of a folk art peculiar to southeastern Pennsylvania, the wallpaper-covered slide lid box is a seldom-seen variation on the small dome topped wallpaper boxes made as gifts, and as places for pins and buttons and other valued sundries. This one is poplar with wood pinned construction. 6½” x 4” x 3”. Each pair of opposing sides is covered with a different element from the pattern repeat of an early cinnamon and green hand-blocked wallpaper, probably imported. The pattern on the top is unique to the lid. Pennsylvania, ca. 1820-1830. Superb condition.
